Today we played our first doubles against Bucklands Beach School. It was a close first set and we only lost by 7 games to 6. In the 2nd set we went down by 6 games to 4. We would like to thank Joyce our Manager for all her support this week, and for support we have had from other teams whilst playing.

LAST BASKETBALL POST FROM THE MOUNT!
Today we played 1 game and we were so pleased to win 22-21. It was against Kristin who had beaten us earlier in the tournament and it was the most intense game we have played. It took a little bit of bribing though, Mrs Schofield said that if we got 20 points or more, after the game she would share some chips between two people. We also got ice creams too! It seems that whenever we get bribed we win our games! A big thank you to Mrs Schofield and our team Manager Heidi for being with us all this week and giving us this chance to play basketball.
LAST FOOTBALL POST FROM THE MOUNT!
The Soccer team tried our hardest and though we got off to a slow start as we are very tired, we picked up our game but sadly lost 2-0 to Whakatane. In the second game, we played our best but the other team was very good and beat us 2-0 again!
Our third game of the day and our final game of the tournament was fantastic and we were very happy with the result of 3-0 against St Mary's and this was a great way to end the tournament.
We would like to thank all our parent supporters who visited during the week; and also our Coaches Mr Wilson and John Etherington, and our Manager Mr Cheetham. This week of football has been amazing and we have learnt lots and improved.

LAST WATER POLO POST FROM THE MOUNT!
We have been having lots of fun at AIMS and have been playing lots of teams who have challenged us physically and mentally. Today we played Otumoetai and Mt Maunganui. Our first game we drew 4-4 and in the second game it was a close loss of 1-2 to the Mt. We have played a lot of tough boys and done really well in improving as a team.
Our final game tomorrow morning is at 9.00 am against our rival Balmoral, and we are really hoping to come out with a win. We would like to thank all the parents for coming to support us at Bay Wave. And especially Lenore and Jules our team mothers, and Emily our Coach for their care and support. Thank you football today for your support after you had finished playing your 14th game - it was great to see you there!
LAST NETBALL POST FROM THE MOUNT!
Today we played two challenging game. Our first game was against Te Wharekura O Maumo. We enjoyed that game because it was so much fun. We flew through that game and the finale sclorre was 28-12. Our first win of the AIMS tournament 2012. Sadly, Sylvia ran into the goal circle, skidded over and landed on her wrist. She was escorted by ambulance to hospital. She said that she found the experience exciting since she has never been in an ambulance before. She is better now with her arm in a cast because she has actually broken her arm. We are very pleased to see her back with the team tonight.
Back to the netball... - overall we played well as a team so we could intercept and catch the ball! Everyone played well and pushed themselves. We were so happy - even Sylvia!
In our second game, we were a bit tired and forgot to come in front of our players. We eventually lost 32-8 to Pukemiro. No serious injuries in this game and we still enjoyed playing.
We would like to thank the tennis players for supporting us throughout this tournament, and also the basketball and water polo team for coming today. It gave us heaps of motivation!
We look forward to a good night's sleep and a fun last game tomorrow - Good Luck to other teams!

LAST HOCKEY POST FROM THE MOUNT!
Today we had a tough game against Rotorua Intermediate. At the
end of the first it was nil all which was awesome but at the end of the second
half we let in a goal. Although we were disappointed we are still motivated to
win our last game tomorrow morning. Thank you to the waterpolo team for coming and
supporting us- it was really good to see you there!
FOOTBALL WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today we played four games. The first game we played was against
St Kents and we drew 0/0. It was a very
tight game and we were all cheering loudly from the side lines. Our next game was against ANI (Auckland Normal
Intermediate) We drew 0/0 again with a
team that had beat us earlier in the year.
In our third game today, after dominating the game Mt Maunganui scored a
lucky break away goal. Yaz scored a brilliant free kick 30 meters out and with
5 minutes to go Kezia scored the goal of the season assisted by a cross from
Michaela Buckley. In the 4th
game we played the top of the table, unbeaten, BBI . It was a very close tense game and we almost
drew it right at the last minute. We were very proud of our performance today.
WATER POLO WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Player of the Day: Hannah Ngare
3Ps Award: Charlotte Crust and Alice Leonard
We had 3 games today with varying results. First thing this
morning we play Aquinas College and unfortunately lost. Then at 11.30 am we
played St Kent's College and had a great win 8-5 with 5 girls scoring goals.
Our last game of the day against Glen Eden Intermediate, the reigning AIMS
champions and the girls played their hearts out losing by 3 goals to 5.
Overall, a much better squad performance.
NETBALL WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today we had two games. The first one was at 11am vs St
Peter’s. The first half was very even and Dio were displaying some great team
tactics. However in the second half St Peter’s stepped it up a level and got
away from us. Our next game at 2pm was against Ahipara. The team played their
best game so far and were up for most of the game. In the last quarter Ahipara
fought back. Both teams were going goal for goal; at one point it was very
exciting but at the same time very stressful! The game ended with a 21 all draw.
The girls were so excited and pleased with how well they played that it felt
like we had won!
Today we also enjoyed watching the other Dio teams in action
including tennis, football and water polo. A big thank you to the parent
support we have had at the games so far!
TENNIS WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2012
We had a bit of a sleep in today. We had breakfast at 8.30am and left for the
tennis courts for the first game at 9.30am. Aki had a free day and Grace played
2 singles today. The first singles was
for 13th placing but she lost that game to a higher ranked
player. She proceeded to another
consolation round for the 19th & 20th placing and unfortunately Grace
lost that game too. So, Grace finished
up 20th out of 64 contestants in the tournament for the girls singles
which was a great result for her.
The netball and soccer team came out to cheer and support Grace
at the tennis court today. She was very
happy to see everyone there .
HOCKEY WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today we played one game against Murray’s Bay Intermediate
at 5.10 pm. In the first half we weren’t really into it and we weren’t working
very well as a team. At half time it was nil all. In the second half we went on
all fired up and we were all really determined and started working really well
together as a team. We were passing really well between each other and we got 3
amazing goals!
Today’s picture as you can see, was not
taken at Bethlehem where we played our hockey but is of us supporting water
polo this morning. We also want to wish Hannah Dyson a very Happy Birthday - she is 13 today!
BASKETBALL WEDNESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
Today we played two games. The first team we played was Ross
Intermediate they were really tall and aggressive. Sadly we lost and scored no
points. After that we supported the waterpolo who were very good and won 8-5.
Finally we went back for our last game for the day. We played Waihi Intermediate.
We were very happy at the end as we won 36-6. Ms Mason and other teachers came to support us! Everyone was
very proud.
MR WILSON'S MESSAGE FROM THE ARMCHAIR
Each evening we have held a Dio Team meeting where we have heard from each sports team about their daily exploits. During this time, Player of the Day awards and 3P (Pride, Passion and Participation) awards have been announced. It has been a really good way to bring the Dio Team together as girls and Coaches have shared their days' sporting moments. To hear about the way that squads have come together and the learning that has happened for each team has been a real highlight. Today's meeting for example, started with a lovely message from our swimmers, thanking everyone for their support and we were able to acknowledge their starring role in our AIMS Dio Team.
At each meeting, we have heard Mr Wilson's "message from his armchair" and we thought that today we would share a couple of these with you:
Tuesday - Control your own Destiny
We have talked often that our Dio girls are playing opposition who are much stronger or bigger than us. We look at them and think there is no way we can beat that team. In sport, as in life, we need to worry about what we can control, not worry what the opposition can or will do.
Listen to the tactics that your coaches talk to you about, try and understand the game plan and implement as well as you can. Make sure you react quickly during the game if the opposition do well, but follow your plan.
Successful sportswoman worry about the things they can control, not things beyond their control.
Wednesday - Respect
Today at the football field there was an unfortunate incident where several adults from the oppostion team started having an arugument. This was very vocal and lots of people could hear it. Often we don't agree with other people's point of view, that's normal, but what is important is to respect each other and not become abusive or angry.
Some of our teams have played a lot of games, for example football have played 11 games in 3 days, so it is natural when you are tired, you become a little more stressed and agitated. I have been most proud of Team Dio at AIMS because we have retained our integrity, we have respected our coaches' decisions and listened to their instructions and advice. When we have been challenged by a strange referee decision, we have accepted it with grace and respect. If we are respectful sportswoman of the coaches, referees and opposition, we will become better people when we are older and people will respect us and our comments.

The Diocesan Swimming Team at the AIMS
GAMES tournament did a fantastic job representing Dio over the last couple of nights.
The first session was held on the Monday
night. It was a tough program for the
swimmers with them all involved in almost all of the races and the program not
finished until 9.30pm. All 4 students swam
fantastic times in all their heats though, to make their way through to the
finals on the Tuesday night.
Gina, Olivia and Liv all raced in the
10-11yr old age group. Their Results in
the finals were outstanding:-
Gina Galloway

1st 100m Backstroke
1st 50m Freestyle
2nd 50m Backstroke
3rd 100m IM
4th 200m Backstroke

3rd 50m Breaststroke
3rd 100m Breaststroke
10th 200m Backstroke
The girls then finished off a long evening
racing by coming 2nd in the open 200m Medley Relay. This was a fantastic achievement as they were
racing boys’ teams as well in the relay.
Over the competition, points were awarded
to schools. The Diocesan team came 3rd
in overall points for the Relay trophy and also 3rd in overall
points in the schools competition. This
was an absolutely outstanding result from a team of 4 swimmers.
NETBALL TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today netball had two tough games against the home teams Otumoetai
and Mt Maunganui. We lost both games but showed great improvements and the
fight to stay in the game. The opposition were very tall. It was also such a
windy day that when our shooters shot for goal the wind blew it in a completely
different direction. Tomorrow we will be in a new grade with teams of a similar
ability to ours so we are looking forward to the new competition.
FOOTBALL TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today our team played 3 games we won our first game against
Papamoa 3-0. We didn’t get any goals in the first half but we pulled it
together in the second half and manged to score three goals which was great and
we had a great game. Our second game was against Berkley School sadly we lost
3-1. Michaela Buckley scored our one goal - it was a fantastic cross from the
side line. We played really well and the other team was really good too. They
really pushed us to our limits to work hard and score one goal. Our 3rd
game was a bit disappointing because our team played so well but unfortunately the
tall team from Rotorua managed to get the ball in the back of the net twice L The basketball team really helped with their cheering! Thank you
!
BASKETBALL TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2012
Today at basketball we had a great game. Our team only
played one game today against Tauranga Intermediate. This game was a tough game
for us. We lost 36-10 but we felt like we were winners because we tried our
hardest and gave it all we had. Before and after our game we supported two Dio
teams – Water Polo and Football. Both of these teams played really well. At
their games we shouted our loudest!!
HOCKEY TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2012
We are from the Glynn’s hockey team. This morning we played
Kamo who are ranked top in our pool. The previous night Kamo were seen pummelling
St Kents Corin, the final score was 15-0.
We started the game with some smart hockey as our coach calls it. Quick
passes sharp tackles and great structure. Going into the second half we sadly
lost some great goal scoring opportunities. Although, some of our team mates
took some blows for the team there were some high notes with the girls stick
flying through the air. We finally lost 5-0.
Tonight however, we had a really good win against St Mary's winning 8-0 and Emma Olson scored a hat-trick - a great way to finish the day.
WATER POLO TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2012
Today we played 2 games unfortunately we lost both of them.
First we played Northcross a very hard team we lost 11-0. It wasn’t our best
game…. only a few girls tried their hardest and that brought us down. Our next
game was against Albany – a much closer game everybody stepped up and gave
their A game. The score was 6-5 we were very pleased with ourselves because it
is not just about winning it was about leaving all we had in the water. So over
all we had one game that we were pleased with and the other not so much.
TENNIS TUESDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2012
Today has been a great day for us in Tennis - both Aki and Grace won all their games. This means that Aki won her divison and finished in 36th place in the singles for the tournament. Grace is through to the Semis in her division. Aki's hands are much better now and Grace managed to play two games of netball in between her tennis games. Grace's last game finally finished at 5.30 pm with a super tiebreak to decide who went through to the semi finals of her division. Her semi final is Wednesday at 9.45 am - we will keep you posted!
