Each evening we have held a Dio Team meeting where we have heard from each sports team about their daily exploits. During this time, Player of the Day awards and 3P (Pride, Passion and Participation) awards have been announced. It has been a really good way to bring the Dio Team together as girls and Coaches have shared their days' sporting moments. To hear about the way that squads have come together and the learning that has happened for each team has been a real highlight. Today's meeting for example, started with a lovely message from our swimmers, thanking everyone for their support and we were able to acknowledge their starring role in our AIMS Dio Team.
At each meeting, we have heard Mr Wilson's "message from his armchair" and we thought that today we would share a couple of these with you:
Tuesday - Control your own Destiny
We have talked often that our Dio girls are playing opposition who are much stronger or bigger than us. We look at them and think there is no way we can beat that team. In sport, as in life, we need to worry about what we can control, not worry what the opposition can or will do.
Listen to the tactics that your coaches talk to you about, try and understand the game plan and implement as well as you can. Make sure you react quickly during the game if the opposition do well, but follow your plan.
Successful sportswoman worry about the things they can control, not things beyond their control.
Wednesday - Respect
Today at the football field there was an unfortunate incident where several adults from the oppostion team started having an arugument. This was very vocal and lots of people could hear it. Often we don't agree with other people's point of view, that's normal, but what is important is to respect each other and not become abusive or angry.
Some of our teams have played a lot of games, for example football have played 11 games in 3 days, so it is natural when you are tired, you become a little more stressed and agitated. I have been most proud of Team Dio at AIMS because we have retained our integrity, we have respected our coaches' decisions and listened to their instructions and advice. When we have been challenged by a strange referee decision, we have accepted it with grace and respect. If we are respectful sportswoman of the coaches, referees and opposition, we will become better people when we are older and people will respect us and our comments.
